Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (mHBOT)

Mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy (mHBOT) is a gentle pressurized air treatment with oxygen-enriched air to promote regeneration.

Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (mHBOT)

Mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy (mHBOT) uses increased ambient pressure to deliver more oxygen to your body. In a soft chamber, you breathe oxygen-rich air under slight overpressure (approx. 1.3–1.5 bar). The overpressure dissolves more oxygen in the blood plasma, reaching tissue that under normal conditions would receive limited oxygen. A session lasts about 60–90 minutes. The pressure in the soft chamber is gradually increased (“descent”) at the start. Then you lie back and breathe the enriched air. At the end, the pressure is slowly released (“ascent”). A mild ear pressure can be equalized by swallowing or yawning. HBOT in a soft chamber can support oxygen transport, stimulate natural healing processes, and induce deep relaxation.

Principles of Soft-Chamber mHBOT

Increased Oxygen Levels
The moderate overpressure (1.3–1.5 bar) allows significantly more oxygen to dissolve in the blood than at normal atmospheric pressure, delivering oxygen even to poorly perfused areas.
Moderate Pressure
Soft chambers operate at lower pressures than medical hyperbaric chambers (up to 2.5 bar), making them very tolerable and low-risk for outpatient use.
Regeneration Support
The additional oxygen can promote new capillary formation, reduce inflammation, and stimulate cellular regeneration, thus aiding healing at the cellular level.
Relaxation and Well-Being
Many patients find the treatment pleasant and calming. The comfortable chamber environment and enhanced oxygenation can lead to deep relaxation and improved overall well-being.

Applications of Soft-Chamber mHBOT

In Germany, soft-chamber HBOT is considered an individual health service (IGeL). It can support various bodily processes but carries no guaranteed cure claims.
Wound Healing and Tissue Regeneration
For poorly healing wounds—due to diabetes, circulation issues, or radiation damage—HBOT can improve oxygen supply. Studies show that pressurized oxygen reduces inflammation, stimulates capillary growth, and enhances tissue repair. In the soft chamber, mild mHBOT complements standard wound care.
Fatigue and Long COVID
Patients with chronic fatigue or lingering post-infection symptoms (e.g., Long COVID) often seek supportive therapies. Early studies suggest HBOT may improve symptoms like brain fog, fatigue, and mild pain, possibly by enhancing brain perfusion and positively affecting the immune system. In this context, soft-chamber HBOT is offered as an optional adjunctive therapy after thorough patient education. Many report increased energy and mental clarity.
Wellness, Recovery, and Prevention
In sports and wellness, mild HBOT is increasingly used to speed recovery after intense training by helping clear metabolic byproducts (e.g., lactate) and promoting cellular repair. In anti-aging, some experts view HBOT as a way to slow aging processes and extend healthspan. While anecdotal evidence is promising, robust long-term studies are still pending. Therefore, we regard soft-chamber HBOT as a supportive measure to boost well-being and energy, not as a standalone anti-aging solution.

mHBOT in Our Practice

Our practice applies soft-chamber mHBOT responsibly and in line with current knowledge. After a detailed intake, we discuss suitability:
1. Medical Intake and Education
In a consultation, we review your medical history, current complaints, and potential risks. You receive full details on procedure, duration, costs, and realistic expectations.
2. Personalized Therapy Plan
Based on your goals (e.g., wound healing, sports recovery, fatigue support), we jointly determine the number and frequency of sessions—typically 10–20 sessions to observe initial effects. Pressure and duration are tailored individually.
3. Treatment and Monitoring
Before each session, a brief medical check is performed. While you relax in the chamber, we visually monitor you and check in every 15–20 minutes about your comfort. If you experience ear pressure, dizziness, or breathing issues, we pause treatment and gently reduce pressure. After each session, we discuss your experience and adjust settings as needed to ensure safety and comfort without continuous electronic monitoring.
Our goal is to activate your self-healing capacities and optimize your regeneration—always evidence-based, without exaggerated claims, and with your well-being as our priority.
